It hasn’t been all fun and games. I have seen a lot of things that have turned my chest hair gray. After 25 years of being a dive guide, last month was my first time to bring my own small group to Malpelo on a half charter.
I met Tony, the owner of Ferox, for the first time when he was just starting trips to Malpelo. I had been working for a long time on Yemaya, and after the owner sold the boat I thought I was done with Malpelo. Ferox and Tony made it possible for me to go back.
I decided to organize my first small-group Malpelo half charter so that I could have like-minded, solid divers with no ego; just eager, unselfish divers.
I wanted to focus on my work as a guide and do what I am good at. And yessss!!! I had the best divers! We maximized the diving with good spirit and the right attitude. We were all out there trying to give our best, and we ended up having the best trip! (Details about the dives are in my dive log.)
A million thanks to Arnaldo, Alexandra, Brent, Trent and Sebastien! If I have divers like you, I think I am in paradise every day and focused on my work!
I am also extremely proud of the Colombian crew and staff. They are very professional and have big hearts.
I have two half charters in 2020 and three in 2021 on the best dates for Malpelo. I will continue to screen my group of 6 per trip in order to maximize the diving experience while putting dive safety first.
Our group had a routine:
Get your sh*t ready, briefing is on the skiff! Eat. Sleep. Repeat.
Thank you for a great trip!
Chocolate on the pillow there may not be
If that’s important, then you’re on the wrong trip
Open your mind and put your watch away
If you love nature, then we’re on our way.
Of what diving days we have
We’ll make the best
Positive, positive!
I’ll do my very best!
